A report that came out from the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregancy, reports that the teen preganancy rate in Holyoke dropped by 32% in 2012.  While Holyoke is still number one in the state for highest rates of teen pregnancies, this recent drop is significant.  Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse called the news, "very encouraging."

Thursday August 14, 2014:  Holyoke Health is celebrating National Health Center Week at the Holyoke Farmers' Market next Thursday at noon.  The health center will be showcasing its Community Programs, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse will issue a proclamation, Holyoke Health CEO Jay Breines will speak, and the Salsa Kids will perform.

The Holyoke Health Center's Pharmacy is now dispensing Narcan Kits over the counter.  Narcan is a nasal spray medication which stops the process of an opioid drug overdose.  Over the last month, HHC Pharmacy has dispensed 15 kits.  Please watch the news story on our new program for all of the information.

We are getting close to the annual National Health Center Week which is held on August 10-16th this year.  National Health Center Week is a week of recognition of the vital roles that community health centers play across the country.  1,200 health centers deliver health care at over 9,000 sites across the county, with locations in every single state and territory.  Community health centers provide health care to over 22 million people and have been doing so for 50 years.  Holyoke Health Center will be celebrating National Health Center Week on Thursday August 14th at the Farmer's Market.  Stay tuned for details.

Friday May 2, 2014 Holyoke:  You Have Choices Holyoke!  This was the message from the Holyoke Adolescent Sexual Health and Pregnancy Prevention Accountability Committee's task force which hosted a kick-off event to start Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, today at Holyoke High School and Dean Technical School.  Originating from a Mayor-appointed task force, the Holyoke Adolescent Sexual Health and Pregnancy Prevention Accountability Committee (HASHPPAC) was created to address the inordinately high rates of teen births in the city.  Each year HASHPPAC holds events to raise awareness of the impact of adolescent pregnancy and to engage youth in being a part of the solution.  This year HASHPPAC worked collaboratively with the Holyoke Public Schools and the Holyoke Youth Task Force to reach more adolescents in Holyoke than in prior years.  The event this year was held during school hours in an assembly which featured Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, Holyoke School Superintendent Dr. Sergio Paez, Guest Speaker Marv Neal, from Family Nurturing Center, and essay winners.

Friday March 31, 2014:  MA Governor Deval Patrick, EOHHS Secretary John Polanowicz and DPH Commissioner Cheryl Bartlett held a discussion on the ground breaking Prevention & Wellness Trust Fund Grant that the Holyoke collaborative was awarded.  Holyoke Health Center is the lead partner for this collaborative which includes; the City of Holyoke, the Holyoke YMCA, River Valley Counseling Center, Holyoke Medical Center and Western MA Physician Associates.  The first phase of this pioneering grant has been awarded and we are thrilled to be able to collaborate on this exciting new grant, which was made possible by the MA Department of Public Health.

On Friday March 7, 2014 the Holyoke Health Center hosted Senator Edward Markey for a discussion on the rising number of drug related deaths and heroin related arrests that have ocurred in Western Massachusetts recently.  Senator Markey was joined by Holyoke Health Center, Inc. CEO Jay Breines, Congressman Richard Neal, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse and other state, community, and local organization officials in a meeting regarding how to combat the increasing drug abuse and heroin epidemic.


Holyoke:  Holyoke Health Center and a group of organizations that includes the city has received a $250,000 state grant which is part of  a larger  $40 million in grants awarded to nine community-based partnerships to help fight chronic illness and improve health outcomes while reducing health care costs. Part of the Prevention and Wellness Trust Fund, this first-in-the-nation effort, is part of a $60 million grant over four years created by the Legislature and administered by the Department of Public Health (DPH).

We’re gearing up for Valley Gives on 12.12.13, this is the second annual 24-hour celebration of generosity. During Valley Gives, western Massachusetts nonprofits collaborate with the goal of getting thousands of Valley residents to support their favorite nonprofits. Holyoke Health Center Celebrates the Grand Opening of New Pediatric Dental Wing (#pedidental)

Holyoke, MA - Holyoke Health Center is celebrating the grand opening of its state of the art Pediatric Dental Wing on Friday September 20, 2013 11am-12pm.  Located on the fourth floor of the health center’s main location at 230 Maple Street in Holyoke, the new Pediatric Dental Wing is the result of over a year of planning and constructing a cutting edge facility to house the health center’s increasing pediatric dental patient load. Our guest speakers include Dr. Brent Martin, MassHealth Dental Director, Dr. Daniel Kane, Associate Director Lutheran Medical Center, as well as Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse.
