August 9th through the 15th was National Health Center Week across the nation! Community Health Centers throughout the United States celebrated the 50th anniversary of health centers and the success they've achieved over the years.

Holyoke Health Center celebrated NHCW with a week of special events that commemorated our community health center's achievements and also recognized our staff!

Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23:  Celebrate Holyoke is a weekend long event taking place in downtown Holyoke at Hertitage Park. This event will feature vendors and community organizations from Holyoke, and all over Western MA. There will be food, drinks, music, informational booths and fun activities for the whole family!

Thursday, June 25, 2015: Holyoke Health Center, in partnership with Tapestry Health and River Valley Counseling Center, held a free event for HIV Testing as a part of National HIV Testing Day. This National HIV Testing Day event took place at Carlos Vega Park on Hamilton Street in Holyoke, and was held from 11:00AM - 2:30PM.

The HIV Testing Day event offered free counseling and testing for HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted infections, in addition to providing free condoms, bleach kits, and educational pamphlets and information. There was also the opportunity to meet and speak with Medical Case Managers and HIV+ peers, and learn about services for people living with HIV. Throughout the event there was music, raffles and food provided for all who attended. The first fifteen people who received a rapid HIV test also received a free t-shirt.

Every Monday during the month of June from 10AM to 12noon, Jason Lefebvre from the Holyoke Public Library will be in the waiting room of Holyoke Health Center's Pediatrics!

Tuesday, Febuary 17th and Wednesday, February 18th: Holyoke Health Center hosted a 2-Day event called Dental Adventure as an awareness campaign for National Children's Dental Health Month. Dental Adventure took place during Holyoke Public School's winter vacation week and had more than 150 children participating in the event.

Thursday August 14, 2014:  National Health Center Week celebration at the Holyoke Farmer's Market was a big success!  Thank you to Mayor Morse and Representative Vega for issuing proclamations for National Health Center Week.  The remarks and proclamations were followed by a fantastic performance from the Salsa Kids of the Ramon Baez Dance Company.

A report that came out from the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregancy, reports that the teen preganancy rate in Holyoke dropped by 32% in 2012.  While Holyoke is still number one in the state for highest rates of teen pregnancies, this recent drop is significant.  Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse called the news, "very encouraging."

Thursday August 14, 2014:  Holyoke Health is celebrating National Health Center Week at the Holyoke Farmers' Market next Thursday at noon.  The health center will be showcasing its Community Programs, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse will issue a proclamation, Holyoke Health CEO Jay Breines will speak, and the Salsa Kids will perform.
